Douglas Aspine was a cold, calculating bastard who lusted for the riches and power that came with being a public company CEO.
He was forty-five and running out of time when fate dealt him an unexpected opportunity.
An irresistible crime thriller.
The company was old, staid and well-respected, but it was underperforming, and Aspine was determined to turn it around no matter who he had to crush or how many toes he had to stand on.
Soon he was at war with the company’s employees, unions, suppliers, financiers, and co-directors, but nothing was going to stop him. Not his chairman, not his wife, not his mistress, not the anonymous death threats, and definitely not the media.
He could almost taste the glory, the riches, and peer recognition he’d craved for so long, but would those who he’d hurt so badly let him enjoy his ill-gotten gains? He knew he had countless detractors and enemies who he contemptuously labeled “losers” and paid them no heed.
Would this prove to be a miscalculation of monumental proportions?
The CEO is a white-collar crime thriller that will grab you from the first line and take you on an enthralling, surprising and suspenseful ride you will not forget.

The is the story of a real SOB becoming CEO of an old established company. He ruthlessly destroys the old culture for the purpose of increasing company profits and stock prices for the express purpose of feathering his own nest. He fires long term employees and carries out dubious and illegal activities to accomplish his goals. And he makes many enemies who are out to get him. The story takes place in Australia so there are expressions not familiar to US residents and the laws and governmental organization are somewhat different than ours. And in most cases the meaning of expressions are obvious to us and word look up often gives the definition of Australian terms. So that means we are not only entertained but we learn something too. It is a fairly long book and there are errors, I'm sure not the fault of the author but in the transition to digital. There is a lot of profanity. It's a good read. Very entertaining.Product details

The CEO White Collar Crime Finance Suspense Thriller edition by Peter Ralph Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is a great read...keeps you wondering what 'manipulator' Douglas Aspine will do next!
You don't know whether to like or hate Doug Aspine. He's a brilliant guy who can manipulate people to do whatever he wants...legal - moral....or not! You see all the underhanded shenanigans he pulls and wonder how he gets away with it. He cheats on his wife, ignores his kids, abuses his mistress, manipulates employees, while socking away millions of dollars for himself!
After being turned down for a bank loan that Aspine had hoped to use to catch up his bills and bail him out of trouble with his wife, Aspine lands a CEO job. He promises the board of the new company to increase revenues by 50% the first year so he starts by trimming the 'fat' of employees. When his promised projections fall short, Aspine manipulates his 'bookkeeper' to 'cook the books' to cover the shortfall...to make sure he gets his bonus!
Aspine catches the attention of a TV talk show host who is determined to expose Aspine for what he really is. Between the talk show host, his former mistress, his now ex-wife, plus those he's screwed in the business world, Aspine is in deep trouble. He's going to try to sneak away and enjoy his hidden wealth. You'll just have to read this book for yourself to see a 'master manipulator' at work and what consequences he and those around him have to suffer.
I'm looking forward to reading more by this author!
Is justice served? It depends on your view. An uncaring, ruthless, amoral man, driven by greed, power and loathing for others who come into contact with him, is finally given a taste of what he did to those who depended on him for their livelihood. The desire for power takes him on a journey of enormous destruction. Finally ending in his own destruction, brought about by a woman who seeks justice for her husband. Do two wrongs make a right? The reader is left to judge. The characters are mostly real, though some of them are too transparent with too much emphasis put on depicting the main character as wholly evil. The description of white collar crime is very good even though it seems as though others in the narrative are blind and almost incompetent. I. A short space of time too much had been done leaving the reader breathlessly confused almost. Overall, a good narrative, but too many characters which takes some of the tautness out of the narrative. Still, a worthy read.
Within minutes, I despised the arrogant Douglas Aspine, the central character of THE CEO. His overbearing, foul-mouthed and abusive personality made me want to jump into the story somehow and waterboard him nonstop... just for a couple weeks, nothing long-term. Because of this immediate and perverse attachment, and the desire to see somebody waterboard him, I steadied both feet in the stirrups and held on for the ride. I watched as the CEO diabolically outsmarted his rivals, then devised yet another plot of deception. Each time, he blindsided Lady Justice. I rode on, up and down the hills, through the turns, all the time salivating for his comeuppance. Read on to see the surprising twist. Very readable, enjoyable, worth the ride.
It's been said before in other reviews but cannot be overstated enough the main character Douglas Aspine is the most unlikeable character I've met in a long time, perhaps ever. He is completely pathological in his lying, in his cheating, in the people he ruins, in the misery he dishes out. Maybe only once or twice did I pity him as he sought refuge in a bottle or a hooker, but then he would do something so horrible as to erase any pity. That said, I was riveted the entire book, waiting for him to either grow as a character and be redeemed, or get his just desserts. I won't say which one happens (or if either one happens), so you'll have to read to find out.
The good the plot moves along pretty well as the lies (and the money) piles up. I appreciated the technical financial information and tricks that the MC used to raid the company's coffers, cheat people out of money, and ruin careers all in the name of maximizing shareholder value (and lining his pockets). You can tell it was written by someone who had some skin in that game. Particularly timely given the late financial meltdowns and property bubbles.
The not The book could use a good edit, particularly towards the end. There was a lot of "telling, not showing," in many scenes, and the writing could be sharpened up. I tend to cut a lot of slack when it comes to more up-and coming authors that aren't being published by a big publishing house, so I could overlook it. With a good edit and a bit of rewrite, I'd have given this five stars.
All in all, a solid book. I've never read in this genre (other than maybe Grisham, to an extent), but I liked it.
